You Have A Problem?…

…excellent.  roots

There is an interesting misconception that most people have pertaining to trees, particularly, their roots.  Believe it or not, many people do not want to plant new trees in their yards or along their streets because they fear that once the trees really take hold, start to put down deep roots, they will interfere with and break the neighborhood water pipes–also buried just slightly underground.  This fear (as with many fears) is completely based on a lie.  At some point in time, someones water main broke, they dug it up, found a  tree root growing into it, and exclaimed to the whole rest of the neighborhood that, “that tree broke our pipes!  No more new trees, ever!”.  The misconception spread.

The truth, however, is that tree roots do not cause pipes to break.  Mainly, pipes break due to their old age.  What is true, on the other hand, is that tree roots do take advantage of broken water pipes.  You see, trees need water (duh, Parke!), and when they “sense” water leaking from a broken pipe, they are naturally inclined to grow towards and eventually into that water source, even if it is your beloved water main.

The trees simply capitalize on a broken situation.

Can you really blame them?  In fact, aren’t they all the more exceptional for doing so?  It keeps them alive, promotes their health and allows them to reach new & unexpected heights.  We should follow their example.

How many so called problems are you surrounded by every day?  How many of them could you–with a little creative thinking and planning–solve?  There are many problems (we could call them opportunities!) thriving all around us all of the time.  This is great news for the leader and for the visionary.  Why you ask?  The leader and the visionary all make it their personal duty to look for problems that the general population ignores, and fix those problems in order to help a lot of people.

Do you want more good news?  Ok, wonderful.  Here it is:  You don’t have to create the problems (opportunities)!  They already exist.  They are there (everywhere!) for the taking.  The majority of people don’t want problems.  In fact, they spend their entire lives trying to avoid them or get rid of them.  Opportunities, disguised as problems, are overly abundant.  You don’t have to waste energy or time or money trying to create an opportunity, they are already in existence, everywhere that you look.

Be a visionary.  See problems (opportunities!).  Fix one.  Help a lot of people.  Be successful.  You are capable.
